Swinging Summercd.
June shows variation on new cd with covers and new material.
It had become a real summercd 'Staring At The Sun' of June. The fifteen songs are a parade joyful and swinging melodies. Immediately are notable the multisides of June. Maurice van Tol (from Alphen ad Rijn) is the vocalist of the band. June calls herself a rockband but with this title the band is placed in a too narrow field. On this album you'll also hear pop, soul, latin and even a drop of country. The theme is definitely summer. Songs as 'You Are My Sunshine', 'Summer In The City', 'Summertime' and 'End Of The Summer' will subscribe this theme. Count in the nice and relaxt trumpet of Saskia Laroo and the beautiful vocals of Judith Jobse and you'll have yourself a perfect match! On 'Staring At The Sun' are eleven covers and four songs of June's hand. Also in the choice of the songs June doesn't seem to be narrow minded. From the soulclassic 'My Girl' (1964) to 'So incredible' of Ilse Delange. Also 'Take it Easy' of The Eagles and 'For Once In My Life' of Stevie Wonder appear on this cd. In the relaxt song 'I'm Yours' (Jason Mraz) you can hear the clearness of Maurice's voice. Even with the Spanish lyrics of 'La Camisa Negra' doesn't he seem to have any problems.
Four songs on this cd are written by the members of June. The lyrics are less happy then the rest of the songs. But the melodies fit right in! Next to the official bandmembers, bassplayer Martijn Willemsen, drummer Remco Verdegaal and vocalist Maurice van Tol, six aother musicians joined this project. Judith Jobse appears again, just like she did on the single of June 'Turn Off The Lights' which was released last year. De cooperation with guitarist Michael Hoogervorst was such a succes that he has become an official bandmember. June has since several weeks four official members. It isn't a real surprise because Remco, Maurice and Michael formed earlier the band Sweet Sin.
